Former Hokkaidō Government Office - visitor guide

北海道庁旧本庁舎

The Former Hokkaidō Government Office, known as the Red Brick Building, combines a landmark Sapporo exterior with exhibitions about Hokkaido's history and culture. Inside, the visitor route includes material on Ainu culture and the building's administrative past. The restored setting gives the familiar façade more meaning than a photograph alone.

Why go

Distinguish general admission from optional guided experiences when planning the interior visit. The octagonal dome tour has its own reservation arrangements, so seeing the exterior does not mean that space is freely accessible. Use the exhibition information to choose your route and allow time to read the historical context alongside the architecture.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 45–90 minutes. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Timing noted for this stop: Daytime; verify current operating hours before travel.

Access reference: Sapporo Station. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.
