Ohori Park - visitor guide

大濠公園

Ohori Park's broad pond carries part of Fukuoka Castle's former defensive landscape into a modern city park. Bridges link islands across the water, offering an alternative to following the shoreline paths. A walk can focus entirely on the pond or extend to the separately operated Japanese Garden and Fukuoka Art Museum along its edge.

Why go

The island crossings and shore paths offer different ways to experience a large body of water within central Fukuoka.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 1.5–3 hours. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Timing noted for this stop: 18:00–22:00 for Nakanoshima illuminations; November–March for winter birds. The Japanese Garden has separate daytime and event hours.

Access reference: Ohori Koen Station; park entrance is a short walk. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.

Nakanoshima lighting runs daily 18:00–22:00. Winter birds usually visit the pond from November through March. The Japanese Garden, rental boats and other park facilities keep their own access arrangements.
