Osaka Castle - visitor guide

大阪城

Osaka Castle's present great keep rises above moats and massive stone walls in Osaka Castle Park. The site carries Toyotomi and Tokugawa history, while the current tower is a twentieth-century reconstruction housing exhibitions.

Why go

Start with the grounds to appreciate the scale of the walls and moats, then visit the keep if its exhibits fit your route. Hideyoshi began the Toyotomi castle in 1583; the surviving site passed through destruction and Tokugawa rebuilding before the present tower was constructed. The park and tower have different access conditions, so check museum admission separately.
