Shirotori Garden - visitor guide

白鳥庭園

Shirotori Garden turns the landscape of central Japan into a garden walk in Nagoya's Atsuta district. A hill represents Mount Ontake, while a stream evokes the Kiso River as it winds toward the ponds. Waterside tea-house architecture and changing views give the route its character.

Why go

Look for the connection between the garden's landforms and the region beyond Nagoya: the artificial hill and descending water are part of a deliberate geographical composition. Pause at different pond edges to see how the buildings sit against the water. Tea gatherings and other programs have their own arrangements, so check those separately if they are central to your visit.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 1–1.5 hours. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Timing noted for this stop: Morning; autumn foliage and illumination periods; November–February for yukitsuri displays.

Access reference: Atsuta Jingu Nishi Station; about 10 minutes on foot. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.

Yukitsuri rope displays are normally installed from early November and removed from late February. Re-entry is not allowed. Seiu-tei interiors and its tea garden may be unavailable when the tea rooms are in use.
