Maruyama Park (Sapporo) - visitor guide

円山公園

Sapporo's Maruyama Park forms a wooded link between Hokkaido Jingu, Maruyama Zoo and the forested slope behind them. Mature trees and seasonal cherry blossoms give the paths a different character from the city's central street grid. Decide which neighboring destinations to add while leaving room for the park itself as a walk through western Sapporo's greenery.

Why go

The park brings a woodland setting to a day built around western Sapporo's shrine and zoo.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 2–3 hours. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Timing noted for this stop: Late April–early May for cherry blossoms; mid–late October for foliage, weather permitting. Park Center facilities open 09:00–17:00.

Access reference: Maruyama Koen Station; about 5 minutes on foot. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.

Typical cherry-blossom season is late April–early May; foliage is usually mid–late October, varying with weather. Park Center opens 09:00–17:00 and closes December 29–January 3. The water-play channel ended its 2026 season on August 31. These are component restrictions, not a whole-park closure.
