Asahiyama Memorial Park - visitor guide

旭山記念公園

Asahiyama Memorial Park combines a hillside outlook over Sapporo with woodland paths and open recreation areas. The city panorama is its most immediate attraction, but the surrounding trees also support nature observation. Plan walks around the park's current access notices, including its guidance for areas bordering bear habitat.

Why go

Make the open viewpoint the focus of a first visit and choose woodland walks according to daylight and current guidance. The park operator publishes wildlife notices and may close areas at short notice. Facilities also vary seasonally, so check the current park information if you depend on a rest house, play area or winter amenity.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 1–2 hours. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Timing noted for this stop: Visit in daytime: the operator advises avoiding evening, night and early morning due to bears. Stay out of wooded areas at those times.

Access reference: Maruyama Koen Station; continue by bus to Asahiyama-koen-mae. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.

Grounds are normally open 24 hours, but bear sightings may trigger immediate closure. Parking is open 06:00–22:00; this is not a park-wide opening window. The fountain runs 10:00–20:00 through October 31, 2026, weather/maintenance permitting. The rest house normally opens 10:00–17:00 through November 8 (planned). Check current operator notices before setting out.
