Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens - visitor guide

東山動植物園

Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens brings animal habitats, greenhouse collections and extensive planting into one large Nagoya destination. The botanical areas offer a different pace from the zoo, with enough ground between them to make route choices worthwhile. Decide early whether to concentrate on one side or allow time to explore both.

Why go

Choose the complex when plants and garden walking are as much a part of your plans as seeing animals.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 4–6 hours. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Timing noted for this stop: Opening hour on a weekday.

Access reference: Higashiyama Koen Station, Exit 3; about 3 minutes on foot. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.

From October 1, 2026, adult zoo-and-garden admission is ¥800; the Sky Tower combination is ¥880. The operator links Asoview advance tickets. The operator suggests 2–3 hours each for the zoo and botanical garden, excluding breaks. Some animals move indoors from about 16:00.
