Kijima Kogen Park - visitor guide

キジマ高原公園

Kijima Kogen Park is a mountain amusement park in Oita Prefecture, combining rides and family attractions with a cooler highland setting and views across the surrounding landscape.

Why go

Its setting distinguishes it from a flat urban amusement park: rides and leisure facilities sit within a mountain landscape reached by a dedicated bus route from Beppu. The stop fits best when the park itself, rather than only the surrounding scenery, is the purpose of the detour.

Field Notes

Kijima Kogen Park is a mountain amusement park in Oita Prefecture, positioned between the Beppu and Yufuin areas. Its setting is part of the experience: rides and family attractions sit within a highland landscape rather than a dense city entertainment district. The park is associated with Kijima Kogen Resort, but the amusement area has its own admission, ride and operating rules and should be planned separately from resort lodging or golf facilities.

The park developed as part of the broader Kijima Kogen leisure complex and became known nationally for Jupiter, a large wooden roller coaster. The ride’s timber structure distinguishes it from steel coasters and has made it one of the park’s defining landmarks. Other attractions are aimed at a mix of families and thrill-seekers, so the useful length of a visit depends heavily on which rides are operating and on the age or height requirements relevant to the group.

Mountain weather matters more here than it does at a fully indoor attraction. Wind, rain, maintenance and seasonal operations can close individual rides even while the park remains open. The operator publishes an operating calendar and attraction notices, and those should be checked before a trip built around one specific ride. Ticket products can also vary between basic entry and combinations that include ride access, so current pricing is more useful than an older guidebook figure.

Public transport is possible from the surrounding Beppu/Yufuin region, but the park is not beside a major railway station. The official access information should be used to confirm the bus or road approach on the intended date. For most visitors, the park works as a half-day to full-day stop rather than a quick roadside attraction. Arrive with enough time to account for queues and the distance between attractions, and keep resort services separate from amusement-park assumptions. The practical reason to visit is the combination of an established regional amusement park, a notable wooden coaster and the open highland setting, with the current calendar determining exactly what can be experienced on a given day.

The highland location also means temperatures and weather can differ from central Beppu, another reason to check the operator’s day-of notices before committing to a ride-focused schedule.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 60–120 minutes. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Access reference: JR Beppu Station → Kamenoi Bus to Kijima Kogen Park, about 35 minutes. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.

Schedule checked October 2, 2026: the October 2–December 27 park calendar has date-specific hours and closures on October 6 and 27, November 10 and 24, and December 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16. Individual ride closures are separate; weather can change operating arrangements.

The park links directly to Asoview for smartphone advance tickets. Display the ticket before reaching the entrance; the operator states that advance tickets are non-refundable. The vendor page is script-based, so specific inventory has not been verified. Poseidon 30 is separately scheduled to pause October 13–15, 2026 for maintenance; this is not a whole-park closure.
