Why go
The combination of a ropeway ascent and bear-focused exhibits makes this a distinct outing from the town's hot-spring walks.
Field Notes
The upper site includes more than the bear enclosures. The Brown Bear Museum provides an interpretive stop, while Yukar Village introduces Ainu culture and a separate viewpoint looks toward Lake Kuttara. Decide which of these interests you before the ascent so that the visit does not become only a sequence of feeding photographs. Weather will still determine how much of the distant landscape can be seen.
The ropeway ticket includes park admission, and the operating calendar should be checked as a single journey-and-attraction plan. The operator has announced a closure for ropeway inspection and facility maintenance from 5 to 23 April 2027, with reopening planned for 24 April. Confirm the notice for your date before making this the centre of a Noboribetsu day. Dated maintenance information is more useful than assuming that the onsen town’s accessibility guarantees the mountain attraction is open.
Planning Notes
Suggested time on site: 2–3 hours. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.
Timing noted for this stop: Morning after opening, allowing time for the ropeway and exhibits.
Access reference: Noboribetsu Onsen bus terminal / ropeway base station; park reached by ropeway. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.
