Harajuku - visitor guide

原宿

Harajuku brings together Tokyo’s youth-fashion streets, specialist boutiques and conspicuous sweet shops in a compact area east of the station. Takeshita Street supplies the bustle; Laforet, Cat Street and the Jingūmae side streets reveal different approaches to dress, from elaborate subculture looks to casual everyday style.

Why go

A good walk moves between the busiest shopping corridor and the smaller streets around it, leaving room to browse labels that catch your eye. Meiji Jingū’s wooded approach offers a nearby change of pace. The district’s styles evolve, so treat it as a living shopping neighbourhood and ask before photographing people whose outfits interest you.
