Why go
The raised viewpoint reveals the bridge and channel from an angle that differs from the road-level approaches.
Field Notes
The tower can be explored in stages rather than treated as one photograph from the roof. Its first floor introduces Kouri Island history; the second and third floors provide indoor viewpoints, and an open-air deck completes the ascent. Compare the framed indoor views with the wider outlook outside, when the rooftop is available. The operator warns that weather can prevent access to the roof, so an open tower does not necessarily mean every viewing area is open. Before the tower, the automated cart passes Okinawan planting and gives audio commentary about the island. This makes the approach part of the visit, not merely a ride from the entrance.
The shell museum adds a different scale of observation: close inspection of shape, colour and texture after the broad sea panorama. The collection includes shells from around the world, with panels and video explaining marine life. Family worksheets give children something to look for rather than simply passing the display cases. Allow time for this indoor component if natural history interests you, instead of using it only as a corridor to the observation floors.
