Chura-Sun Beach - visitor guide

豊崎美らSUNビーチ

Chura-Sun Beach is a 700-meter man-made beach in Toyosaki Seaside Park, close to Naha Airport, with a netted swimming zone, palm-lined lawns and a small observation tower.

Why go

This is a practical beach stop when time around Naha Airport matters. The 700-meter shoreline, protected swimming zone and lawns support anything from a short walk to a longer seaside break, while bus 95 reaches nearby iias Okinawa Toyosaki from the airport.

Field Notes

Chura-Sun Beach offers a broad seaside setting within the developed Toyosaki waterfront, south of Naha Airport. Tomigusuku City dates its opening to May 2010 and describes approximately seven hundred meters of artificial beach. Its name combines the Okinawan idea of beauty with the English word sun. On a clear day the outlook can include the Kerama Islands, while the westward sea horizon makes evening light another reason to come. This is a deliberately created recreation shore, best understood together with the surrounding park and town.

Toyosaki's wider plan helps explain that setting. The city describes a 160-hectare district organized around places to live, work and spend leisure time. Housing, businesses, tourism facilities and commercial sites were incorporated into the development, with the beach forming part of the recreation area. Green space along the seawall also supports walking and jogging. A visitor can therefore enjoy the coast without making swimming the sole purpose of the outing. The connection between built town and open shoreline is central to the character of this particular beach.

The beach operator lists practical facilities including showers, lockers, toilets and a first-aid room in the management building, as well as a rooftop observation area. Basketball, beach football, volleyball and barbecue areas broaden the range of activities. Choose one or two that suit the available time, and check any separate arrangements for equipment or reserved spaces. The operating guide distinguishes park access from swimming hours, an important difference for an early walk or an evening visit. Being able to enter the grounds does not mean the water is open for bathing.

The adjacent Toyosaki Seaside Park adds lawns and a promenade to the sand. At its southern end, Niinii no Oka preserves a connection with the film Nada Soso and is arranged as a lookout. Tomigusuku's guidance identifies the northern beach as the swimming area and excludes swimming at the southern beach, so use the designated area and follow on-site instructions. A short coastal walk can fit around airport travel, but leave a realistic buffer for the journey and any return arrangements. The beach is most useful when the chosen activity fits the conditions and the time remaining.
