Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens & Ropeway - visitor guide

神戸布引ハーブ園/ロープウェイ

Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens begins with a ropeway journey from the city edge toward the slopes above Shin-Kobe. At the top, terraces lead into themed planting and a garden route descending through the hillside. Give the herb beds and greenhouse spaces time as well as the panorama, and plan the return around the ropeway's current operation.

Why go

The journey and downhill garden route combine Kobe's mountain setting with a closer look at herbs and seasonal planting.

Field Notes

The ropeway and the garden each have their own final-entry and return timings. Read those together before setting out on the hillside route so that an unhurried walk does not become a rush to the last downward service. Online tickets can simplify the purchase stage, but the operator says passengers still join the boarding queue; they should not be treated as a promise of immediate departure.

Use the current garden information when choosing stops within the grounds. The operator now says that the Herbal Foot Bath and Bell of Vows have been removed, so an older itinerary built around those features needs adjusting. Seasonal fairs, garden picnics and evening programs have their own dates or arrangements. The strongest plan is still a combination of the ascent, themed planting and time with the view, with optional experiences chosen from what is actually operating.

Planning Notes

Suggested time on site: 1–3 hours. Keep travel and waiting time separate from that estimate.

Timing noted for this stop: Clear daytime; seasonal flowers and sunset periods are especially strong.

Access reference: Shin-Kobe Station; about 5 minutes to the lower ropeway station. Check the final walking or connecting leg when choosing your route.

Schedule checked October 2, 2026: garden hours are normally 10:00–17:00. During the November 7–December 28 Christmas programme, garden closing extends to 20:30 on Fridays, weekends and holidays, and every day December 11–28; verified dated rows stop December 27. Christmas nights include garden paths, the glasshouse and Wind Hill, while individual shops and restaurants keep separate hours. Earlier autumn night operation after 17:00 covers only the top observatory, so those partial-access dates have no single whole-garden interval here. Ropeway operation begins at 09:30; ordinary last ascent/descent is 16:45/17:15, and Christmas-night last ascent/descent is 20:15/21:00. Wind or lightning may interrupt service.
