Hakata Gion Yamakasa - plan your visit 2027: Dates, Venue & Visitor Guide
博多祇園山笠
Hakata Gion Yamakasa combines towering decorative floats with fast-moving teams carrying smaller festival floats through Hakata’s streets. Centred on Kushida Shrine, the July celebration builds from displays and preparatory events toward its early-morning finale, giving spectators several ways to encounter the same tradition.

What to know before you go.
The stationary kazariyama and moving kakiyama play different roles: one rewards a close look at decorative storytelling, while the other is experienced through teamwork, movement and sound. Use the programme to decide which you want to see. The climactic Oiyama happens very early, so ordinary daytime sightseeing plans will miss that part of the festival.
